RLCF holds General Assembly

17 October 2023: The RLCF (Renewable and Low-Carbon Fuels Value Chain Industrial) Alliance gathered its 230 members on 16 October for its second General Assembly. Together, members reviewed all the different work realised during the first year, and settled next year’s objectives and programmes.

The Commission began the meeting with a few words, reminding members that the upcoming years are an opportunity for European Union industry to become a major actor in the production and supply of the Fit for 55 package and that the use of funds as the EU ETS innovation Fund will play a crucial role in enabling this success. Moreover, the Alliance is gaining visibility as it was presented to the ICAO and ECAC institutions. As reminded by the Chairs of the General Assembly, the Alliance needs more international cooperation with Member States and further collaboration with regions.  

Last year objectives were to be implemented by four round tables of experts that presented their work and following stages for next year which include:

  • Launch call for project pipeline open to members of the RLCF Alliance.
  • Active monitoring of project deployment.
  • Introducing a RCLF Alliance label.
  • Improving engagement rate.
  • Filling the membership gap.
  • Identification of gaps in support and input to design of new instruments.
  • Encouraging the interaction with other EU/International initiatives and high-level officials to raise awareness.

During the General Assembly, the Alliance also established five objectives for next year's work programme:

  1. Identifying transport fuels which are most economically and environmentally suitable and evaluating strong and weak points in the value chain.
  2. Assessing the enabling conditions in Member States and identifying gaps in standardisation, safety assessments.
  3. Identifying and assessing existing relevant public and private financing opportunities.
  4. Creating a pipeline of investment projects.
  5. Looking at creating synergies with different transport modes and ensuring availability of resources.

The four round tables will ensure the continuity of the work carried out in the first year of the Alliance and will be reviewed during the year to allow the admission of newest members as well as an appropriate working commitment. During the past year 100 new members joined the Alliance and were dispatched among the round tables.
