Swedish regional airline first in the world offering all passengers biofuel flights every time
Braathens Regional Airlines has implemented the possibility for all our passengers to select 100 per cent biofuel when booking their flights with us.
We are way past small-scale test flight actions – we did them years ago.
The launch of biofuel was on 8 April 2018. As the first airline in the world we implemented the possibility for all our travellers to pre book biojet fuel for their flights. The biofuel option is possible to pre book for a surcharge SEK 300 (€29,50) per person per flight. Hundreds of passengers have already selected biofuel for their flights with Braathens Regional Airlines in Sweden. At the moment we see an increasing interest from corporations, companies and organisations with high-profile environmental programmes.
Biofuel with Braathens Regional Airlines upon booking works as simply as this:
- Biofuel is an option for anyone flying with Braathens Regional Airlines.
- It is possible to select when booking the flight ticket.
- Braathens Regional Airlines replaces conventional jet fuel for biofuel when ordering fuel from the distributor Air BP.
- Air BP deliver the biofuel batch to an airport operated by Braathens Regional Airlines in Sweden.
- Braathens Regional refuel its aircraft at the selected airport throughout the year. By this traditional jet fuel is exchanged by biofuel and it is incorporated into the fuel cycle of Swedish aviation.
- BRA does not charge the customers any additional handling or administration cost for the biofuel. The additional cost just covers the cost of biofuel.
- To enable pre-booking of biofuel, Braathens Regional Airlines has pre-calculated the fuel usage per flight hour based on its annual flight data. One hour is the average flight time for a normal Braathens Regional Airlines trip. The biofuel is sold to customers covering one hour flight.
- The biofuel is delivered to Sweden by Air BP and is produced in California, USA from used cooking/frying oil.
Braathens Regional Airlines first in the world – again!
- In the year 2009 Braathens Regional Airlines was the first commercial airline in the world to be fully environmental certified by ISO 14001, then under the brand names Malmo Aviation and Sverigeflyg.
- Our new biofuel option for everyone makes us first out on market again with revolutionary climate actions.
Braathens Regional Airlines target: Fossil Free by 2030 and more…
- Braathens Regional Airlines has just recently updated its aircraft fleet with one of the world's most climate-efficient aircraft types available for regional flights: ATR 500/600 turboprop.
- The new ATRs today operate 19 of the airline's 23 domestic network routes in Sweden.
- There are no high-altitude emission effects from flights with BRA's ATR fleet. The aircraft don’t fly on altitudes higher than 6,000-7,000 metres (high-altitude emission effects begin at 8,000-9,000).
- BRA will start a second aircraft fleet change in 2020. The airline will at the same time send its current fleet of Avro RJ to retirement.
- In March 2018, Braathens Regional Airlines was granted membership in the Swedish government Fossil Free Sweden Initiative, www.fossilfritt-sverige.se/in-english/
- All business trips carried out by employees of Braathens Regional Airlines are made with at least five per cent biofuel.
- As early as the year 2009, Braathens Regional Airlines became the world's first fully environmentally-certified passenger airline by ISO 14001. By then under the names of Malmö Aviation and Sverigeflyg whom after a merge now is named Braathens Regional Airlines.
- Since 2015, one of the goals for BRA is to become fossil free by the end of the year 2030, several years prior to the Swedish national target.
