European SAF Industrial Policy Study released

European SAF Industrial Policy Study released
11 February 2025: A study by ICF on European SAF Industrial Policy, commissioned by ERA, A4E, ASD, ACI, EBAA and GAMA, has been released to coincide with the launch of the Destination 2050 report, aimed at key decision makers with concrete recommendations on how SAF production can be ramped up in Europe. The objective of this report was twofold: while the study aims to provide a holistic assessment of the current situation forSAF in Europe, it is also a strong tool to build an European SAF industrial policy in order to fulfil the ReFuelEU Aviation Regulation.
A list of concrete measures was therefore identified to stimulate EU SAF production including:
- Providing a policy framework that ensures competitive SAF production in Europe, for example better access to financing, de-risking investment.
- Increasing the efficiency of already existing mechanisms, for example, ensuring a B&C mechanism, better allocation of ETS revenues, etc.
This study will serve as a concrete support case for SAF policies to be included in the upcoming Clean Industrial Deal proposal.
