Agenda for the 2024 Safety Forum published

19 March 2024: The 2024 Safety Forum, organised by the Flight Safety Foundation in conjunction with EUROCONTROL and ERA, focusing on the impact of weather on safety, will be to be held on 19 and 20 June. The agenda has now been published.

To start proceedings, the President and CEO of the Flight Safety Foundation, the Director Network Manager, and ERA’s Director General, Montserrat Barriga will address the audience, before handing the floor to Christopher McGregor, Flight Safety Officer from ERA member ATR, who will provide this year's keynote speech.

The sessions on the first day will focus on the impact of weather on aviation, discussing both the risks and strategies for managing adverse conditions, such as flash floods and turbulence, before delving into pilot and machine resilience, where experts from NASA and other organisations sharing insights on human performance and weather risk management.

The first day will finish with a view from the ground, highlighting operational meteorology and the Network Manager’s role in dealing with adverse weather.  A networking reception will be held afterwards.

The second day of the conference will start with the Foundation’s awards ceremony, followed by sessions dedicated to aviation safety tools, and manufacturer insights on weather challenges including those from ERA members Airbus and Collins Aerospace.

The forum will conclude focusing on the effects of dynamic weather conditions and an overview from EASA on the climate adaption activities.

6 February 2024: Registration for the 2024 Safety Forum, organised by the Flight Safety Foundation in conjunction with EUROCONTROL and ERA, is now open. This year’s theme is Aviation Weather Resilience.

Weather is one of the most critical factors affecting aviation safety. Extreme weather events can cause serious incidents and accidents, as well as disrupt flight operations and passenger travel. With climate change leading to more frequent and severe weather events, the aviation industry needs to adapt its strategies and practices to effectively manage weather-related risks and enhance its resilience.

The Flight Safety Forum 2024, organised by the Flight Safety Foundation, in partnership with EUROCONTROL and the ERA, will address this pressing issue by bringing together experts, stakeholders and professionals from various fields. The Forum will take place on 19-20 June 2024 at the EUROCONTROL headquarters in Brussels.

The Forum will provide insights and strategies to enhance safety measures and reduce the likelihood of weather-related incidents and accidents. Participants will learn how to integrate cutting-edge technologies, such as weather forecasting and data analytics, into aviation operations to enhance decision making, planning and risk assessment. They will also exchange best practices, lessons learned and innovative approaches to mitigating weather-related challenges.

The Forum will also discuss how climate change impacts aviation operations and explore adaptive strategies for building resilience. Participants will learn how to cope with the unprecedented changes in the aviation industry, such as new operational concepts, new aviation actors, the advance of automation and information technology. They will also provide a platform for discussions on necessary updates to regulations and standards to address evolving weather-related challenges.

The Flight Safety Forum 2024 is a unique opportunity for the aviation industry to learn, network, and collaborate on one of the most important topics for its future.
