Lotta Sandsgaard
Lotta Sandsgaard – passionate aviator and CEO of Denmark’s fastest growing international gateway – took the controls of Aarhus Airport in April 2023
Anchoring herself to the airport business from an already high-flying career in technical and environmental management at three Danish municipalities, Sandsgaard took up the top spot at AAR fully equipped with the in-depth knowledge and skills to embrace the many complex stakeholder challenges of running an international airport as well as the economic and political complexity facing European regional gateways as part of critical infrastructure. She joined with a strong future vision combined with clear appetite for results, steering Aarhus towards unrivalled opportunity as the hosts of Routes Europe 2024 – the biggest such event in Europe to date. Her highly ambitious goal to raise passenger numbers to 1.5 million by 2029 is well founded, with a recently completed new terminal at hand, placing rapid passenger growth at the forefront of the airport's strategy, concrete in the knowledge that as mainland Denmark’s largest city by a significant margin, the 4+ million passenger leakage associated with its 1.4 million population area is a challenge so good, it’s irresistible. She is also a fully trained commercial pilot and an experienced flight instructor.
Sandsgaard’s mission is maintaining and developing the experience of extreme high quality and warmth of service in the face of fast expansion, and takes pride in harnessing the potential of her many skilled and committed employees and managers at Aarhus Airport. Originally from northern part of Denmark, she now resides in the breathtaking countryside north east of Aarhus, close to the airport and just minutes from her pride and joy, as the owner of a very well-travelled Rockwell Commander 114b single-engine aircraft.
