Jean-Pierre Lentz
Jean-Pierre Lentz is Senior Expert in Civil Aeronautics at the European Commission, Directorate General for Defence Industry and Space (DG DEFIS).
He spent 10 years at SABCA, one of the main aerospace companies in Belgium, where he contributed to the development of various programmes for the European Space Agency and to the company’s manufacturing process improvement programme.
He joined the Aeronautics unit of the Directorate General for Research and Development at the European Commission in 1998, participating in the establishment of initiatives such as ACARE, the Clean Sky Joint Undertaking and Aerodays. Subsequently he has been in charge of the civil aeronautics industry at DG Enterprise, DG Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs and DG Defence Industry and Space. He supports the competitiveness of the industry through various initiatives such as the Alliance for Zero-emission Aviation. For 15 years, he has been also been deeply involved in the development and implementation of the European regulatory framework for civil drone operations.
Lentz has a Masters degree in materials sciences engineering form the Université Catholique de Louvain.
