EU leaders come up with a deal for top jobs

9 July 2024: During the last European Council meeting on the 27 June, EU leaders nominated Ursula von der Leyen as President of the European Commission for a second mandate, former Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Costa as President of the European Council, and Kaja Kallas as High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy.

Ursula von der Leyen and Kaja Kallas’ nominations will require approval from the European Parliament.
