14 November 2023: With the aim of having completely green domestic routes by 2030, the Danish government has presented its proposal for green aviation in the form of a new passenger tax on air travel for which a share of the proceeds must be channelled back into the industry and in this way further support the transformation of the sector.

The passenger tax on air travel will be used to help finance the green transformation of aviation as the fee will be phased in gradually from 2025 and will differ depending on how long the flight is. When the tax is fully phased in by 2030, it will be an average of DKK 100 (about €13) per trip. A "pit stop" will be carried out in 2027, where the passenger tax can be evaluated.

According to the proposal, from 2025, a green domestic route must be offered. It will allow airports and airlines to test green technologies and at the same time create greater demand for both green travel and green technology. A subsidy scheme would be offered to support all domestic flights in 2030 being completely green.

The government proposes that approximately DKK 550 million will be targeted for measures at Danish airports and the Danish aviation sector.
