Commission holds SESAR3 information session
21 September 2021: ERA attended a SESAR3 information session on 8 September. Held in collaboration with DG MOVE, the session aimed to provide stakeholders with an overview on the current state of preparations for the future Digital European Sky programme and the SESAR 3 Joint Undertaking.
The Digital European Sky programme and the SESAR 3 Joint Undertaking (S3JU) is expected to be formally launched during 2021 with the clear aim to make air transport smarter, more sustainable, connected, and accessible to all airspace users.
The SESAR 3 partnership will build on the role of the Joint Undertaking, with an increased focus on innovation, accelerating change and enabling and accelerated integration of ATM solutions into operations.
Aligned with the ambitions of the ‘EU Green Deal’ and the ‘Europe fit for a digital age’ the priorities in the Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA) are aimed to help aviation to be become more sustainable
At the recent SESAR 3 Information Session, speakers including Christine Berg, Head of Single Sky Unit at DG MOVE, Richard Frizon, the acting Director of the SJU, and Philippe Merlo, the Director of EURCONTROL’s DECMA, delivered presentations on the establishment, main considerations for potential members and the work planning of the S3JU as well as understanding EUROCONTROL priorities in the contact of the establishment and functioning of the join undertaking.
Whilst ERA is not a participating partner in the S3JU, we are committed to work closely with all stakeholders in supporting this important activity and we will be involved as part of EUROCONTROL’s stakeholder outreach program and members will be asked for their feedback and views later this year.
